Frequently asked questions

Find clear answers to common questions about starting your karate journey with us in Uxbridge, from what to wear to gradings and safety.

What should I wear and bring to my first lesson?

For your first trial lesson, comfortable sportswear such as tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt is ideal. You do not need a karate suit (gi) right away. Please also bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated during training.

Do I need to be fit before joining?

Not at all. You do not need to be in peak shape to get started. Fitness, flexibility, and stamina will naturally develop as part of your regular karate training.

Are your instructors DBS checked?

Yes, all our instructors hold enhanced DBS checks and follow rigorous safeguarding standards to provide a safe and positive training environment for children and adults alike.

How do training fees work?

Training fees are conveniently paid on a monthly basis, making it simple to manage your ongoing karate practice without long-term locks.

Are classes mixed and do all ages train together?

We offer classes suitable for juniors aged 6 and above as well as adults and families. Training formats may feature mixed sessions where families can train alongside one another, with instruction tailored to different experience levels.

What evenings and times do classes run?

Our training sessions take place on set weekday evenings. You can view full session start and finish times on our timetable page to plan your visit.

How quickly can I earn my first belt?

Beginners who train regularly with focus and commitment progress at an effective rate. When you have grasped the fundamental techniques, you will be invited to attend regular SEKU gradings to earn your coloured belts.

Can parents and children train at the same time?

Yes, we actively encourage family participation. Karate is a fantastic activity for parents and children to practice together, building confidence and fitness side by side.
